Deborah Hess was born the eldest of three children in New Jersey. Having attended Seventh-day Adventist schools all her life she graduated from Blue Mountain Academy in Pennsylvania and then went on to college at Southern Missionary College (now Southern Adventist University). There she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and minors in Music and Religion. She enjoyed her time there and was an active part of the Music Department.
Deborah’s first teaching assignment was teaching 5th grade in Graysville, GA. The next year she took a position teaching grades 5-8 at the Alexandria Church School where she taught for several years.
For 18 years Deborah also taught at John Nevins Andrews School in Takoma Park, MD
where she had an opportunity to teach all grade
levels over the years. She also served as the Associate Principal there before accepting the invitation to become the
Principal and Pre-K teacher at VAA.
In her free time Deborah enjoys music -- especially playing the organ.
She also enjoys reading and working in her garden.
